Q: I am taking Metapur AM 10mg and Ecosprin gold for about one and a half years and my BP is in control. But I am facing a problem with farting resulting in lot of embarrassment. Please advise me if this problem is because of the above medication and what can I do?
A: Ecosprin gold is a drug used to prevent clot formation. It helps prevent heart attacks and strokes. One of the side effects of the drug is increased gas. You should discuss with your doctor, changing how you take your medicine. Sometimes changing the time of day and taking your medicine with food can help with this problem.

Q: How many times can one who has high blood pressure have sex in a day or week? Is it advisable to use any sex enhancing drug?
A: Frequency of relations is usually determined by the participating individuals. Doctors determine when it is safe to return to sexual activity after an illness, not how much is appropriate. Talk to you doctor about any problems you are having that would lead you to consider taking a sex enhancing drug. Drugs of this class can have life threatening side effects.

Q: How can a person have hypertension and bradycardia at the same time and what does this mean?
A: High blood pressure and a slow heart beat, bradycardia, are two different problems that may or may not be related. A side effect of certain drugs is a slow heart beat. Damage to the heart from uncontrolled high blood pressure and other conditions may result in a slow heart beat. To understand the source of your bradycardia, you need to talk to your doctor.

Q: I have been taking 100 mg of metoprolol for 6 weeks after taking 50 mg for 8 weeks prior to the increase. After the 2nd week, I had difficulty sleeping which has gotten progressively worse, so my doctor changed my med to 10 mg of amlodipine. Will this help and what else can I do?
A: Time will tell if the Amlodipine will work for you without any side effects. Ask your doctor about using the RESPeRATE. It has been clinically proven to lower blood pressure and many users report that it also relaxes them as they prepare to fall asleep.

Q: My parents just started taking Aricept. My father told me that my mom has been hollering in her sleep. And he said, he gets bad dreams, and when he’s awake, his head feels swollen and feels tingling. Could these problems be related to the drug?
A: Aricept is a drug used to treat Alzheimer’s disease. It can have many side effects, including nightmares. You and your parents should discuss with their doctor the problems they are having with the medication. Dementia from Alzheimer’s is progressive so early planning and care giver involvement with the treating physician is important.

Q: Is it advantageous to use the Resperate for non-high blood pressure issues? My son (age 21) has problems falling asleep and once he is asleep, he wakes up often.
A: The RESPeRATE is not harmful to use. It does not have side effects. Your son may find it very soothing to use, as it is indicated as a relaxation treatment for the reduction of stress. Many people report they sleep better with RESPeRATE use. My children have used the RESPeRATE to lower anxiety associated with taking major tests.

Q: I took benicar one time and had a very severe heartburn reaction. I needed to take an extra dose of protonix for a number of days to heal my esophagus. Will it be safe for me to go back on benicar? I am using Resperate, diet and exercise but would be willing to take some medication that agrees with me.
A: It is difficult to say whether or not your heartburn was related to the Benicar. Heartburn is not a usual side effect of the drug. However, I understand your reluctance to try it again based on your reaction. If your blood pressure isn’t being controlled by your life style changes and use of the RESPeRATE, you should talk to your doctor about trying a different drug. There are other drugs in the same category that might agree with you better.

Q: I’ve experienced pitting edema for three months, without any symptoms other than the swelling. Could it be caused by a reaction to Lisinopril, which I replaced for Avalide?
A: Edema can be caused by Lisinopril. This is likely if the swelling began shortly after you started taking the drug. You should discuss this with your doctor.

Q: I’m 52 years old and just started taking Nifedipin for my BP. This is the first time that I’m taking BP medicine. This particular medicine is causing me a terrible headache. Is this normal and will these headaches go away after I keep using this medication?
A: Headache is a common side effect of Nifedipin. You should talk to your doctor about prescribing a treatment that doesn’t make you feel bad. Other drug options are available as is the blood pressure lowering device, the RESPeRATE.
