RESPeRATE in conjunction with medicine

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Dec 09 2008

Q: I was taking diovan hcd 80/12, but it wasn’t working. My doctor has doubled the dosage recently. If my blood pressure lowers, how will I know whether it’s the medication or the RESPeRATE machine doing it?

A: Both increased medication and use of the RESPeRATE should help lower your blood pressure. Your goal is to have controlled blood pressure so the amount of blood pressure reduction contributed by the RESPeRATE versus increased medication is less important. Most drugs will have a quicker onset of action than the RESPeRATE.

Increase in hypertension medication

Q: After many years of high BP controlled with 20mg of Monopril, it’s suddenly high even with 40mg. During this time, swelling in the legs has also been a problem. My fluid pill [diuretic] was increased from 20mg to 40mg and now 60mg was suggested. What should I be looking for to control these problems?

A: You need to discuss this with your doctor. Clearly something has changed. Perhaps you have gained a lot of weight, have developed venous insufficiency, or some other more serious medical problem. Without knowing what has caused the change, it is not possible to make a treatment recommendation.
