How can homocysteine be controlled?

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Oct 02 2008

Q: A study of men found that a large amount of homocysteine in the blood was a cause of hypertension. How can homocysteine be controlled?

A: Eating a diet rich in green leafy vegetables and folic acid enriched grains is the best way to help homocysteine levels. Supplementation with folic acid and/or B vitamins is not currently recommended due to a lack of clinical studies showing this is beneficial.
