Swollen ankles and hypertension

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Jan 11 2009

Q: I have a stressful job working in a prison. I have noticed that recently my ankles have been swollen. Is this a further symptom that my hypertension is getting worse? I take two drugs hyzaar and atenelol.

A: Ankle swelling is a common complaint, especially among people who stand on hard surfaces all day because of their employment. It can be caused by many things. It is best evaluated by a physician to determine the cause.
