Controlling labile hypertension
Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Jan 14 2009
Q: My blood pressure goes from extreme highs 200+/100+ down to 80/50. I have tried all kinds of hypertension medication but have to give up because of the lows. The doctors do not have any other help for me. Do you have any advice for me?
A: Have you asked your doctor about trying the RESPeRATE? It has no side effects and has been clinically proven to lower blood pressure. Also, steps you can take that have been shown to help lower blood pressure are maintaining a normal weight, having a regular exercise program, eating a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, lowering stress in your life, and not smoking.

Mar 23, 2009 - 02:03:03I too have had labile hypertension for more than 40 years. It recently has become more extreme. I had to go to the ER with 228/124 and it was uncontrollable. I am on 160mg Diovan in am and 150mg Tekturna in pm with 50mg Atenolol am and pm. I can go from extremely high to extremely low. Also have heart flutters, as I did today, and got very lightheaded. Felt like my heart was going to stop.
My Mother has extreme highs 228/124 and extreme lows in blood pressure. She will have heart flutters and get very lightheaded, and feels like sometimes her heart is going to stop. Cardio Doctor can’t seem to fix it.. Any suggestions?
Make sure she is taking all medications as prescribed and that her doctor is aware of any supplements or herbals. Keep in mind that it never hurts to get a second opinion. You might want to have her seen by another cardiologist.
I feel for all of you. I have the same thing. I was diagosed with autonomic dysfunction with extreme labile hypertension. It changes from minute to minute. From 178/80 to 130/68 and then at night and morning it can be 90/58. It’s horrible to live this way. I’ve seen several drs and if my blood pressure is normal when I’m there, they won’t treat me. I’ve tried baby doses of betas, but it keeps my pressure pretty high end of normal during the day then plummets at night.
I just want an answer. I’m scared that I’m doing so much damage to my heart. I’ve had drs say just try what you want.
Frustrating to say the least. I’m thin, don’t smoke and eat no salt. Feeling like a stroke or HA is imminent.
I too have empathy for all of you and have never experienced empathy from doctors in this regard. Some say eliminating wheat helps. Having a BMI of 20 helps. Reducing nervous hyper responses seems to be having confidence to not be afraid to express anger and to not take things so personally which helps create the anger in the first place.
