What is the best way to know if a medication will work?

Q: My meds work for a few years and then for some reason they quit working. Is there any way to know which meds will work?

A: Our lives and our bodies change as we get older. I suspect your blood pressure medication stopped working because of a change. Perhaps you aren’t exercising as much, have gained weight, or have developed an illness such as diabetes. The only way to know for sure if a drug will work is to try it and get regular follow-up.
