Weight gain from blood pressure medication
Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: May 24 2007
Q: I am gaining weight from my BP medications. What should I do?
A: Certain blood pressure medications tend to promote weight gain. Your doctor may be able to change your treatment to a different medication without this side effect. However, an important part of any high blood pressure treatment program is a regular exercise program and a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Something as simple as taking 10,000 steps a day can make a big difference in weight control.
