Micardis drug generic

Q: I take Micardis HCT 80 mg. Is there a generic substitute for this drug? As I move to Medicare, it would help financially to pay a lesser amount for a comparable generic.
A: The generic name for Micardis is Telmisartan. To my knowledge it is not available generically in the United States. It is available, by mail order, from Canada.
