Is kankle swelling a common side effect with blood pressure medications?

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: May 17 2007

Q: Is ankle swelling a side effect of some types of BP meds?

A: Drugs cause all sorts of side effects. Diuretics, one of the mainstays for treating high blood pressure should help with ankle swelling, not make it worse. This does not mean that a blood pressure medicine will not cause ankle swelling.
