Is coughing a possible side effect of diovan?

Q: My blood pressure pill, Diovan, causes me to cough a lot. Is this normal between high BP and meds?
A: A well known side effect of angiotension inhibitors is coughing. Although coughing occurs less frequently with Diovan than other medications of this class, coughing should not be considered normal. You are having a side effect from a medication and should discuss it with your doctor. Your doctor needs to be aware that you are having a problem so that together a decision can be made about your blood pressure treatment.
