Hydrocholorothiazide and the heat

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Jul 06 2009

Q: I take hydrochlorothiazide. Is this for high blood pressure? Also I work in the hottest part of the day (11am-2pm) Does this have any kind of effect on my situation?

A: Hydrochlorothiazide is a drug that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure. However, it is also used to treat other medical conditions. You should always ask your doctor why a drug is being prescribed. Don’t accept a prescription without an explanation you can understand. Anyone working outside in the heat should make sure they drink plenty of liquids. You want your urine to be a pale yellow. This is especially important when you are taking a medicine like hydrochlorothiazide which forces your body to lose fluid.
