Elevated BP during monthly period

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: May 10 2007

Q: Why does my BP elevate (160/100) every time I have my monthly period?

A: A study done by the Department of Medicine in Cork, Ireland showed that blood pressure is higher at the onset of menstruation [Clin Sci (Lond), 1991 OCT;81(4):515-8]. However, a blood pressure of 160/100 is abnormally high and should be evaluated by a physician.
