Can taking too much amoxicillin raise blood pressure?

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Jan 28 2008

Q: Will taking excessive amounts of Amoxicillin when I have dental work done cause my BP to rise?

A: I assume you are referring to the standard adult 2.0 gram dose of Amoxicillin that is recommended by the American Heart Association for people with certain heart conditions to prevent bacterial endocarditis prior to a dental procedure. This should not elevate your blood pressure but the stress and anxiety associated with seeing the dentist certainly could.
