Can peripheral neuropathy be aggravated by the drug lotrel?

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Sep 03 2008

Q: I have peripheral neuropathy which has been extremely mild for years. Since I started on Lotrel it has gotten significantly worse. Can Lotrel aggravate neuropathy?

A: Lotrel is a combination of an angiotension–converting enzyme and a calcium channel blocker. Abnormal sensations to the skin such as numbness and tingling have been reported with this drug. A peripheral neuropathy can also cause similar symptoms so it is likely that the Lotrel is making your condition seem worse. You should discuss the worsening of your neuropathy with your doctor.
