Can a hiatal hernia affect blood pressure?

Written by: Dr. Rowena | Posted: Jan 28 2008

Q: Can a hiatal hernia in your stomach affect your BP or your heart?

A: A hiatal hernia can cause chest pain that is often confused with a heart attack. Because it is difficult to tell the difference, it is important for all chest pain to be evaluated by a physician. Having a hiatal hernia does not cause high blood pressure. In fact, many people with a hiatal hernia have no symptoms at all and do not require any treatment. The most common symptom of a hiatal hernia is indigestion.
