Q: I take ibuprophen to help with sinus headaches. Can I take this with avalide or will it raise my BP?
A: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as ibuprofen, can interact with high blood pressure medicines and cause them to not be as effective in controlling blood pressure. You need to talk to your doctor about other, safer medications you can take to treat your sinus symptoms.

Apr 21, 2009 - 11:04:40Dr. Rowena, I’m taking loratab for neck surgeries I had in the past (2 in 1 1/2 years). Seven months ago I had a triple by-pass. How will taking lisinopril/metoprolol along with pain reliever affect my heart? I walk everyday and eat healthy. I have constant pain, both neck and chest where my surgeries occurred. My BP is always around 150/90, and all my blood tests are normal. My doctor is aware of my meds. His response is just to be aware of my BP and have regular check-ups. I don’t want to give up the pain relievers because sometimes the pain is unbearable.
Lortab is not reported to interact with Lisinopril or Metoprolol. Lortab contains hydrocodone which can make the heart beat more slowly and blood vessels to dilate. In some people this may result in an irregular heart beat and low blood pressure. As long as symptoms don’t occur, taking Lortab for pain control while on Lisinopril and Metoprolol should not hurt the heart. Concerns should always be discussed with your own healthcare provider.
